SWITCH: Managing Water for the City of the Future

Managing Water for the City of the Future

Cities

SWITCH - Demonstration cities

A central part of the SWITCH project was the engagement of stakeholders in 12 cities round the world in developing a vision for water in their city, 30 to 50 years into the future. A Learning Alliance in each city provided a platform for stakeholders to consider a range of relevant technical and institutional issues, to integrate these into a multi-pronged vision and to engage in strategic planning and developing recommendations for policy and for scaling up research innovations.

In some cities, the Learning Alliance considered the city as a whole in a multi-sectoral way, while in others it focused on a key part of the urban water cycle according to local contexts and interests. In addition to the Learning Alliance activities, cities undertook Demonstrations of research-based innovations which were relevant for their own situation.
