Łódż – Poland

Introduction
In Łódż, the focus was on restoring rivers that have become polluted, degraded and even buried as the city as developed. Key actors were the local government, utilities, the university and a specialist research institute. A successful demonstration project has partially revitalized one river corridor providing a more attractive environment for residents and future development, with activities firmly embedded through the learning alliance within the city institutions that will be responsible for continuing and scaling up river restoration across the city. The idea of linking restored river corridors and other open green spaces is now recognized as part of the city's planning strategy.
